July 15 – 21   Go Girl!    Skills Retreat for Women

held at Mountain Trails Youth Ranch

Spend the week in the company of women committed to being capable, positive, prepared and engaged in adventurous living! Here is an opportunity to expand and strengthen your skill set for self reliance and satisfaction.

We’ll start with ancestral skills learning in subjects like fire making, stone tool making, edible and medicinal plant use, primitive pottery and shelter building that add to your repertoire of survival skills but also give you an opportunity to reconnect to the ancestral wisdom that kept us in balance with nature for millions of years. Self reliance skills like home canning of meat, fish, vegetables, salsa and jelly, cheese making, basketry, wool fiber felting and spinning, simple electrical and plumbing repairs and hand tool use will be taught . Learn to safely jump start a car, change flat tires, and do simple car care to keep yourself safe on the road. Participate in martial arts self defense training for the street or home. Some optional activities include going to the rifle range to learn to handle a gun safely, challenging yourself to complete the high elements ropes course, and riding out from the corral to enjoy lunch at a mountain lake.

Each morning will start with an outdoor yoga half hour and each evening there will be time for sitting in your own spot by the river and journaling daily events through writing and drawing.  Dinner will require communal preparation with a different ethnic theme each night.   Evening program will focus on stories, songs, and sharing around the campfire.

Coming together for a week of learning, sharing and creating brings back the satisfaction of women in community working to provide and nurture. As we increase our capableness and confidence through ancient and modern living skills, we can honor women’s long history of survival and perseverance, fully appreciate the strength and balance that men offer us, and feel joyful, strong and fulfilled in our daily activity.

Zombie Slayer Survival Training
For Young Adults. Held at Mountain Trails Youth Ranch. Directions.
719-256-4909 Robin Blankenship for more info.
 for Young Adults(15-22yrs)

NOTE TO PARENTS: Earth Knack does not cultivate a post apocalyptic mind set! We are, rather, completely committed to offering opportunities for young people to find productive livelihood, self reliance and a sense of awe and adventure in daily living!

Capability and a positive attitude engender reverence for Life.

What could be more important?

The title of this course is an effort to get young adults to put down the controller, and replace virtual with reality!  Earth Knack’s ZOMBIE SLAYER Survival Training expects participants to really problem solve, really develop team work, and strengthen their mental and physical abilities.

As you read the Note to Participants, please remember that we are setting up an experience in a safe and controlled environment with trained, professional staff. We will create a scenario script that mimics the video game format that  young people are so interested in, and then present them with a mission within that scenario to learn the following real life skills; communication and teamwork, tracking and nature awareness, marksmanship and archery, financial accounting, campfire cooking, survival skills including fire making, water purification and shelter, responsible decision making, horse packing, first aid and CPR, basic blacksmithing, map and compass skills, basic auto maintenance, self defense forms, and back country travel.

NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS:  Think you’re good at Left 4 Dead orCall of Duty ?(video games)

Think you know all the right plays to dominate in a Zombie Apocalypse?

Prove it!!  And have a blast doing so!

During Earth Knack’s ZOMBIE SLAYERSurvival Programyou will encounter physical and mental challenges that will try to prevent you from accomplishing your “mission” and receiving the ultimate reward. Can you use your wits, skill and team work to achieve success in each encounter?

You will receive two days of intensive training in stone age and modern life skills, outdoor safety and survival at the Mountain Trails Youth Ranch, with its comfortable lodging, dining hall with three delicious meals daily and a bath house with hot showers. Then the adventure begins!

A trek through the back country becomes the ultimate scavenger hunt and challenge course! Put the skills you have learned to the test. At every station along your route a new challenge will present itself.  Helpful guides may appear giving advantageous clues, valuable advice, or adding to your “currency”.  Can they be trusted to point you in the right direction or do you need to rely on your map and compass skills?

Can you demonstrate proper horse packing skills and so earn the chance to pack your bedding and camp gear instead of carrying it? If you can get the truck running and change the tires in a timed competition, you get to advance several miles without hiking. Can you hit the bulls eye in a bow and arrow competition or throw the ancient atl atl spear accurately and win more currency? Can you use that currency wisely, keep an accurate accounting and buy an extra food cache filled with treats?

Can you avoid “Zombie” attack and capture through stealth and camouflage? (yes, we will have staff who stalk, try to outwit, and “capture” trainees!)  At one station you will demonstrate your first aid skills and CPR.

At another you will make a bow drill fire and a stone knife.  Can you accomplish each challenge and fulfill your mission?   Which team will return to the ranch first and earn the ultimate reward?

Get off the couch and put your skills to the test!  Trade in virtual for reality and have a REAL summer adventure!                                 7 days      $985

held at Mountain Trails Youth Ranch and remote outposts
