This is a Christian Based Camp so we ask that you conduct yourself morally and respectfully. Having some knowledge of the Word of God is helpful. We have devotionals and ask that staff attend. If you are comfortable sharing, you may volunteer to lead a short devotional, usually a visual devotional demonstrating a scripture. None of us None
If you are working on a degree in Outdoor Recreation, you might consider an internship with us. We do allow a lot of creative freedom as long as things are cleared through our executive director. We have a good place for you to try out some of your ideas. We don't have a master's outdoor rec supervisor on staff but Adams State College is nearby with an adventure program so we could probably find you a mentor. There are several fourteeners in the San Luis Valley for you mountain climbers, and for climbing enthusiasts, the Crestone Needles and Pentetente Canyon are known worldwide for climbing. On your days off, you would have many areas to have your own private adventure as our valley has a lot to offer to the outdoorsman or woman. Many hiking trails and the Continental Divide is nearby. We are called "the land of cool sunshine" so if you live in a hot climate, this is a welcome relief in the summer. If you have always wanted to experience Colorado, this is one of the more beautiful areas to experience. We have the largest alpine (surrounded by mountains) valley in the world. As I write this, it is May 13, 2011 and we had snow yesterday. We have snowcapped mountains around us generally with snow in small drifts high in the mountains, up into June. It is not unusual to find snow as you drive through the high mountains and have a snowball fight in July! By the way, the altitude is high here, 7500 on the San Luis Valley Floor and then some of the mountains go up to 14,000.We have a vast array of beautiful wildlife: Elk, mule deer, big horn sheep, birds of every description. This area is a haven for wildlife watchers. There are trout in the river running behind the cabins, and when you have time you can pan for flower gold. (Tiny flakes) If Colorado adventure interests you, and you would like to be a volunteer with a small stipend and room and board, give us a jingle. 719-852-3870. Suzy and Butch Rawls
